Why Support LAON
LAON has a mission critical to the Town of Norway. Many lakes in our region have degraded significantly due to invasive plants, or water issues like algae. Once these problems hit, everyone is affected; the ability to use the lakes for recreation becomes limited and property values can be greatly reduced. Other lakes have shown that it takes
huge sums of money just to make small progress with infested lakes. Preventing problems or detecting them early is essential, and that is the aim of our programs.
LAON’s primary programs are:
- Invasive Species: which works to protect against “invaders” establishing themselves on our lakes.
- Watershed Protection: with the purpose of reducing the amount of algae feeding nutrients that storm water runoff can carry into our lakes.
- Water Quality Testing: to understand the state of our waters in order to guide actions.
- Outreach: which seeks to provide information on being good Lake Stewards.
